The Marriott Hotel is a 4 star hotel in Cebu City located right on Ayala Shopping Mall. The hotel was built in 1997, has 12 floors and 301 guest rooms. Getting from Cebu Airport to the Marriott, expect to pay around 200 -250 PHP (if you use the white taxi) and it should take around 30-40 minutes, depending on the traffic. As in Cebu, traffic at times can be horrendous!  The Marriott website states it’s approximately 300 PHP.

As I have said in the video (below), the location of the Cebu City Marriott Hotel is probably the best area to stay in the city. If it’s your first time in Cebu, I thoroughly recommend staying in a hotel near Ayala. Thankfully there is a lot of choice in accommodation this area and most hotels here are pretty modern having only been built in the last few years. If the Marriott Cebu is too pricey, then there is the Quest Hotel just across the road from Ayala, and that’s probably my pick of the hotel (at present) in this area. I can also highly recommend Hotel Elizabeth Cebu, Harolds and Mandarin Plaza Hotel. All these hotels are rated in the range of 3 to 4 star hotels. For something a little cheaper you could try the Tune Hotel.

Would I stay at the Cebu Marriott during Sinulog Festival? Yes definitely. Although it’s around a good 20 minute walk to the parade, it’s doable. Getting a taxi in Cebu this time is just a nightmare, so you’re pretty much going to have to walk anyhow. I have stayed here during Sinulog about 5 years ago and the hotel was extremely busy but a good place to base myself. If you are booking any hotel for Sinulog make sure to book early and most hotels require a minimum 3 nights.

The Garden Café offers buffet food. The buffet breakfast can be purchased in the room price, although you can book it as room only, if you choose. Just check conditions when you book a room. There are regularly promos with the Marriott so keep an eye out on the websites such as Agoda for some great deals.  The buffets I found are good, although not quite as good as some of the upper end hotels in Cebu such as Radisson Blu and Marco Polo Hotel.

The pool is nice; it’s not by any means huge, but good enough for a dip to escape the tropical heat of Cebu. I like it when the lights come out it looks pretty cool.

The lead in room is the Deluxe. This room has two types of bed set ups, one with 2 twin beds the other with 1 king size bed. The rooms have been well maintained and are of a decent size. The other room types give you access the Marriott’s Executive Lounge area. Here you can enjoy complementary drinks and small snacks. For breakfast you have the choice of eating here or downstairs at the main restaurant on the ground floor. As I stated in the video I preferred the ground floor restaurant as it has more choice, but it was also a busier place with all the other guests eating here. Some people I saw preferred eating in the Lounge, so it’s all down to personal choice. At 5.30 they have cocktails and nibbles (see video for more details). This is a popular time and the lounge was pretty busy there. Most of time during the day (generally) when the Executive Lounge is open, its fairly quiet and a good place to escape the noise and hustle and bustle of the city. Not only that, it has some pretty nice views of Ayala from the window.  The staff are excellent here and really go out of their way to make your stay more enjoyable.

The actual room of the Executive Suite is quite nice, spacious and clean.  I had a room on the 12th floor and the views of Cebu City were amazing (see the video).

All rooms come with flat screen cable TV, air conditioning, safe, ironing board, coffee and tea making facilities, mini bar and free Wi-Fi.
