Video Review of the Sofitel Hotel in Melbourne
Sofitel Melbourne on Collins is one of Melbourne’s best luxurious 5 star hotels. Located up the top end of Collins Street, known as “the Paris end” of town due to the boutique shopping and heritage buildings in the area. The hotel has 363 stylish rooms that start from level 36. Rooms offer amazing views of Melbourne, depending on which side the room is facing. The lead in is the Classic Room, 36 sqm. The Superior rooms offer views across Port Philip Bay other than that are much the same as the Classic. Rooms are a decent size, clean and well maintained. The amenities include mini bar, iron/ironing board, LCD TV and marbled bathroom. See video for better idea. The other room type I tried out was the Luxury room which offers more space and light. This room I booked had some of the best views of the Melbourne skyline that I have seen from a hotel room (see video).
The Sofitel’s restaurant No35 offers some fantastic dining on the 35 level. Again offering spectacular views of the city while you eat. The food was scrumptious as expected. They also serve the buffet breakfast here. Again a good selection of food. They have cereals, hot dishes (including egg and bacon), breads, fresh fruits and juices and pastries. I really enjoyed it. The resturant’s menu is located on the hotel’s website, but I have also shown in the video at the time I stayed. Next door is the Atrium Bar is a nice place to relax for beers or cocktails. The hotel also has a gym on this level. On the ground level is Sofi’s Lounge for light snacks, teas, coffees and other drinks.
Sofitel Melbourne – The Verdict
I had an awesome time staying here. The one thing I will remember most is the views from the rooms – wow. Especially when the city lights come alive, it’s a beautiful sight. I did some time lapse video of this on the video. The Luxury room was just delightful to stay at. Nice size, comfy bed and all the amenities made it a real great experience. The staff at the hotel were friendly and going that extra mile. No 35, the restaurant was a wonderful place to eat with equally stunning views. If you room doesn’t come with the buffet breakfast it is well worth paying to get it. The Sofitel is one of the best hotels in Melbourne, and if it’s in your budget it is worth looking into. For the best prices check out the regular sites such as Trivago, Hotelscombined, Agoda, Expedia etc or directly with the hotel. If you are a member of Accor you will probably have some discount as well. Room rates can vary a lot depending on dates and days. From looking online, most sites were showing room rates starting from AUD 251.00.
