Crowne Plaza Melbourne Video Review
Updated Review of the Crowne Plaza with renovated room
The Crowne Plaza Melbourne is rated as a 4 star hotel on the banks of the Yarra River in Melbourne Australia. The hotel has 383 rooms, gym, outdoor swimming pool, restaurant and bar.
During 2018 the hotel is undergoing some renovations with its room refurbishment. So you may experience some inconveniences due to this. Renovations are expected to be completed by October 2018. As I’ve mentioned in the video review of the Crowne Plaza, I hope to get back later this year and see the new rooms. The video will good to compare what the rooms looked like previously to what they will look like.
Location wise, the Crowne Plaza is in a great location. Walking distance to the Crown Casino complex. Not only does it have a casino, there are shops, bars, restaurants and even a cinema showing the latest movies. There is also Southbank, another great place to find places to eat and drink with plenty of restaurants. As well as South Wharf again a popular place to eat, drink and shop.
For transport the hotel has a taxi rank, and just out front is the tram stop.
Crowne Plaza is part of the IHG Rewards Club, which is free to join. Members get free Wi-Fi in the rooms.
Rooms start from the Standard. Which come either with twin or king beds. Rooms come with Foxtel and on demand movies. I’d recommend getting a river view room, there are 2 types, one the South Wharf View or River View. The latter having the best views. The river views look over toward the Crown Casino/Southbank area and the CBD. At night you get wonderful lights of the city. If you can afford it, they have higher view rooms, which are the cream of the crop.
For room rates at the Crowne Plaza (the times I stayed) I found booking directly with the hotel had the best rates and the most availability room types. Have a look also at Trivago or Hotelscombined to check comparison of different booking sites.
The hotel has its own restaurant – The Clarendon St Grill. I enjoyed the food here. For the menu, you can see my video or the Crowne Plaza’s own website. The restaurant has a nice casual feel about the place. For breakfast they serve up a buffet. See video for more details. I also tried their in room dining, again I’ve shown this in the video.
There is a lobby bar for drinks and light snacks. There is also a couple large screen TVs to watch sport on.
Crowne Plaza Hotel Melbourne – The Verdict
On the times I’ve stayed here, I have enjoyed my stays. With the renovations to the hotel only just beginning things will change a bit in the future. With any renovation there will be some disruptions and noise during 2018 which you will need to take into considerations. As mentioned I will try to get back and see how it looks after it’s all done. For what it is, the rooms are decent enough. It is the views that you get from the river view rooms that are really fantastic. If you can afford paying the extra for this room type it is well worth it. I found the food generally good and location of the hotel in Melbourne is real handy. A lot of places are just a short walk away.
I’d rate it as 6 ½ out of 10
