The Mövenpick Resort in Mactan Cebu is a four and half star resort in the Philippines. The resort closed from 15 July 2012 and re-opened at the end of December 2012. It underwent a massive renovation and upgrade at a cost of 200 PHP million. Rather than inconvenience its guests, the resort decided to temporary suspend its operations for around 5 months. The biggest centrepiece of the renovation was the Ibiza Beach Club, a fantastic new addition offering its guests a bar and restaurant set by the ocean. Enjoy delicious grilled meats and tapas, or chill in the spa while listening to daily live entertainment.

The main lobby and check in area of the resort was given a modern update which I personally think gives a much fresher look and feel to the place.

Mövenpick Resort Cebu is a luxury hotel in Cebu, formally known as Hilton Cebu was bought over by Swiss chain a few years ago. The resort is beautifully landscaped in tropical gardens that leads out to its own private sandy cove which is also home to the resort’s own small marine sanctuary, great for snorkeling or just cooling off from the tropical heat. The resort allows its guests to unwind in its pools or spa with its Delmar Spa treatment rooms. It has a gym that is open 24 hours complete with state of the art equipment.

The resort has 241 guest rooms that are equipped with internet connection, IDD telephone, in room safe, LCD TVs, fully stocked mini bar and free WiFi. The bathrooms have both shower and bathtub. The lead in rooms are the deluxe, which come with either a king size bed or two single beds. There is only a limited view of the ocean from the balcony of the regular deluxe room. I would recommend requesting the “peninsula view” at least then you will get a better view (see video for a better idea). For me the deluxe rooms are a touch on the little side for this standard of resort. The rooms themselves are very stylish and modern. Some of the bathrooms I did notice still were left over from the Hilton days and the titles did have some wear a tear (see video) although others looked like they had been renovated and looked a lot better. The Ocean Front Deluxe room have the balcony facing the ocean. For a little more room try the Premier Ocean Front Rooms (45sqm) all with fantastic views of the ocean. For rooms with separate bedrooms, the resort has its 1 bedroom, 2 bedroom and Presidential Suites.

Mövenpick Cebu offers its guests the use of the Executive Club Lounge for an extra charge (when I stayed it was 2000 PHP, in 2014). This entitles you to use their Club Lounge area, internet access and other benefits like 3 pieces of laundry complimentary (per occupant and no dry cleaning), 15% discount on all SPA Treatments at SPA Delmar and early check in and late check-out (subject to availability). You can take breakfast at the lounge (from 6.30am – 10.30am) if you wish, or you can have it at the Sails Restaurant. For more choice I recommend eating at the Sails restaurant. They also have snacks and afternoon tea (see video for more details).

The lobby lounge provides a casual cafe atmosphere where you can enjoy a coffee, pastries and other light snacks.

The resort has a grand ballroom and a number of smaller meeting rooms.

SPA DELMAR – This is the resorts spa with 6 different treatment rooms.

Mövenpick has daily transfers to the shopping malls in Cebu City.

Airport to Mövenpick Mactan Resort: pay around 150.00 P (white taxi) 10-15mins travel time.

My overall review of the Mövenpick Resort Cebu

Over the years I have stayed here a few times, once when it was the Hilton Cebu, the second just after Mövenpick took over and this was before the renovation. After seeing all the hype with the renovation and their new Ibiza Beach Club I was pretty excited to check it out once again. I have to say this by far was my best stay, not only the place looks a lot more contemporary and fresh, the staff were so much more helpful and friendly. It just felt more personal than my previous visits. The Ibiza Beach Club was awesome, the violet lighting, live music and sitting by the ocean is a perfect way to end your night. Not to forget the Brazilian Churrasco Grill was just divine. Rooms where good, modern and clean maybe a touch on the small side. Like with most resorts in Mactan, it is overpriced (including the food), it’s something they get away with in Mactan and people still come back. It’s located near to the Shangri La Resort, Be Resort and Abaca Resort

Overall rating: Excellent.
