Video Review of the Mandarin Plaza Cebu
The Mandarin Plaza Hotel is a new 4 star hotel in Cebu just opposite the road from Ayala Shopping Center, one of Cebu’s top shopping malls. I do like this area of Cebu as it’s so convenient to practically everything in Cebu. Mango Square, It Park, SM Shopping Mall, The Crossroads all are only a short taxi ride away. The hotel itself is one of the larger ones in Cebu with 322 rooms.
Rooms come with mini bar, LED cable TV, hair dryer, Wi-Fi, safe, tea and coffee making facilities, complimentary bottled water, air conditioning, hot and cold water showers. Some rooms are wheelchair friendly.
Rooms come in:
The hotel has 24 hour reception, outdoor swimming pool, fitness center and sauna, business center, bar and restaurant, banquet and events facilities, concierge and basement parking.
The ground floor restaurant serves a buffet breakfast every morning which is pretty decent; the selection of food is not too bad. You can see the video for more details.
To get from the airport to the hotel, it does offer an airport pick up of 950 PHP for car and a van at 1500. If you do it yourself by catching a white taxi from the airport it will cost you around 200-250 PHP depending on traffic.
My Review of the Mandarin Plaza Hotel Cebu
Although it is classified as a 4 star hotel it feels not quite 4 star. Don’t get me wrong this is a great hotel in Cebu. The rooms are pretty spotless and I liked the titled floors. Room size is pretty good and everything as you would expect is pretty new. The WiFi was good. Bathrooms are good as well. The rooms where not quite as “sound proof” as I would of liked, especially for this standard of hotel. A little bit of street noise as well as hallway noise can be heard. The staff were very accommodating and helpful. Upgrading of my room with the front desk that I booked via Agoda was pretty hassle free.
This area has recently become a favourite for hotel developers and there are now nearly a dozen hotels all within walking distance of each other. The good thing is this competition has kept the hotels around Ayala at competitive prices. If you look online or check directly with the hotels in this area they are always having some type of promo or sale. So do your homework and you could save a bit of money. Of the hotels that are similar in its range this is how I rank them:
1/ Quest Hotel Cebu
2/ Harolds Hotel
3/ Elizabeth Hotel
4/ Manderin Plaza Hotel
Even though I have ranked them in this way, really there isn’t a big difference between all four and I can thoroughly recommend all 4 hotels. The Parklane Cebu (which is located just behind the Manderin Plaza) has lost pace with these new hotels and feels dated. I didn’t rank the Cebu Marriott in this group as I feel it’s a bit higher standard than these hotels.
Overall I give the hotel a rating of GOOD.
